Providence Public Schools District (PPSD) seeks an exceptionalMLL Sheltered Content Instruction (SCI) Coachwho is highly qualified and skillful to join our community of teachers, students and stakeholders. We serve approximately 8,500 Multilingual Learners at 37 elementary, middle, and high schools. Combined, our students and families speak 75 different languages and hail from 91 countries of origin.

In PPSD, the teachers and leaders set high expectations for academic achievement, provide equal access to differentiated instruction, and endeavor to close the achievement and opportunity gap among historically marginalized subgroups within the schools.

The MLL SCI Coach is under the direct supervision of the Department of Multilingual Learners. The MLL Coach will provide job-embedded support with the implementation ofSheltered Content Instruction. Job-embedded support can include, but is not limited to, coaching conversations, co-teaching, modeling, and planning. The primary focus of this role is to build the capacity of our teachers who have students identified as MLLs to ensure that the appropriate instructional strategies are implemented in order to meet the needs of all students. The MLL SCI Coach will also play a critical role in compliance with state and federal MLL reporting

REPORTS TO: MLL Manager

**Contingent upon funding**

Salary note: Five (5) extra days

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • BA in applicable field from accredited college or university preferred
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience working with Multilingual Learners
  • Experience as a coach preferred

RIDE Certification Requirements:

All Grades English to Speakers of Other Languages Teacher, Grades PK-12

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION STANDARDS:

  • Administrative or supervisory experience desirable
  • Strong competency in the use of Canvas, Microsoft Office, Excel, PowerPoint and Google Drive
  • Outstanding organizational skills and high attention to detail
  • Outstanding written and oral communication skills
  • Strong intrapersonal skills
  • Proactive problem solver who demonstrates initiative
  • Strong work ethic coupled with an enthusiastic and passionate approach to one's work
  • Ability to create systems to track & analyze data
  • Ability to plan and prioritize multiple projects while being adaptable in a constantly changing environment
  • Ability to work with individuals from diverse backgrounds such as youth, families, and partners
  • Ability to observe and measure outcomes of individuals or groups
  • A commitment to high expectations for all students, particularly the traditionally underserved student populations (i.e., Multilingual Learners, students with disabilities, and low socio-economic status) and an unwavering belief that all students can excel
  • Ability to foster a culture of professionalism and continual improvement
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience working with Multilingual Learners
  • Be knowledgeable of Federal and State Education regulations/laws as they pertain to Multilingual Learners
  • Bilingual candidate preferred (Spanish, Swahili, Arabic, Khmer, Portuguese, Creole or any other language)

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide job-embedded support to colleagues in the implementation of best research practices, including, but not limited to, job-embedded coaching, co-teaching, modeling, and collaborative planning
  • Support school with compliance with applicable federal and state laws and policies related to MLLs
  • Disseminate information regarding MLL compliance regarding federal and state regulations to district stakeholders in a comprehensible way
  • Communicate information regarding MLL best practices and MLL district initiatives to all stakeholders
  • Advocate for MLL students before, during and after the Special Education process
  • Ensure the district’s MLL identification process adheres to state and federal guidelines
  • Ensure proper instructional placement of MLL students
  • Support with the coordination and planning of MLL parent engagement activities in the district
  • Ensure parents are provided with information as required by federal and state regulations in a language they can understand
  • Support MLL administrative team members and school administrators meet identified goals
  • Make recommendations for improvement in performance as appropriate
  • Offer advice and assistance related to MLL supports as needed
  • Create clear guidance regarding MLL compliance for various stakeholders
  • Serve as liaison between MLL office and schools
  • Assist building leaders in implementing appropriate MLL and DL best practices.
  • Stay current on research and best practices in the area of Multilingual Learning
  • Participate and lead MLL related meetings and workshops
  • Support with yearly state and federal reporting pertaining to MLLs
  • Support with yearly state and federal testing pertaining to MLLs
