School Social Worker

Position Overview:

The School Social Worker is responsible for establishing and delivering comprehensive, school-based mental health services within a blended therapeutic and educational environment. This role integrates mental health supports throughout the school day and provides prevention, intervention, and intensive counseling services to students. Services include individual, group, and family therapy; crisis intervention; case management; skills-building activities; and collaboration with educators and community partners to support student well-being and academic success.

Essential Responsibilities:

• Develop and implement an effective intake and referral system to ensure timely access to mental health services.
• Coordinate and deliver training for school personnel on referral processes and trauma-informed practices.
• Assist schools in adopting evidence-based prevention and intervention strategies.
• Provide professional development on mental health conditions and co-occurring disorders among youth.
• Offer training and educational workshops for students, families, and community partners as needed.
• Deliver Tier 2 and Tier 3 intensive, individualized counseling services within the school setting.
• Provide clinical psychotherapy services to students experiencing trauma-related symptoms.
• Implement Screening, Brief Intervention, and Referral to Treatment (SBIRT) services.
• Train teachers to identify students who may require intensive counseling services.
• Coordinate prevention and engagement initiatives that promote student empowerment.
• Provide technical assistance to schools and community stakeholders regarding mental health programming.
• Collaborate with IEP teams, administrators, and external agencies to support student needs.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Comprehensive knowledge of school administration principles, student services practices, and mental health systems.
• Strong understanding of trauma-informed care and school-based mental health frameworks.
• Ability to analyze data and apply logical reasoning to complex situations.
• Ability to develop and present information effectively in both oral and written formats.
• Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships with administrators, educators, families, and community partners.
• Ability to work independently and manage crisis situations effectively.
• Demonstrated professionalism, ethical conduct, and confidentiality.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Master’s Degree in Social Work or a related mental health field.
• Licensed professional with a minimum of two years of experience working with youth.
• Licensed School Social Worker preferred.
• State certification required.

Physical and Functional Requirements:

• Ability to stand and walk throughout the school environment.
• Ability to communicate effectively using speech, vision, and hearing.
• Frequent bending, reaching, and light lifting (up to 30 pounds).
• Ability to use hands for fine manipulation and operate office equipment.
• Occasional driving may be required.
• Ability to respond effectively in high-stress or emergency situations.
• Clear verbal communication and hearing ability required, including telephone communication.
