Definition: The high school social studies teacher is responsible for the instruction, curriculum development and extended classroom activities associated with assigned grade levels. This position includes sections of 10th grade US History I classes and a 9th and 10th grade elective of Justice and the Law.
Essential Functions: The essential functions or duties listed below are intended only as an illustration of the various types of work that may be performed. Provide academic subject instruction in history and the social sciences, ensuring that curriculum map and schedule are followed.
Plan for class activities, including preparing units and daily lesson plans, identifying materials to implement class activities, preparing class projects, giving students feedback on completed work to insure mastery of presented material, and grading of tests and assignments in a timely manner.
Confer with other teachers concerning cross-curricular opportunities.
Communicate with parents on a regular basis about the schedule, assignments, events and individual student needs.
Meet with parents during scheduled conferences during the school year.
Maintain grades and curriculum assessments online.
Attend faculty meetings and curriculum meetings as needed.
Communicate regularly with the Department Chair and other members of the department to ensure a common learning experience for students.
Any other related duties as assigned by the Principal or Assistant Principal
