Adjunct Retired Teacher

Position Overview:

Jefferson Parish Schools is seeking certified Adjunct Retired Teachers to serve on a part-time basis in grades 4–12 in critical shortage areas. The Adjunct Retired Teacher will serve as the teacher of record to cover vacant teaching positions until a permanent full-time teacher is hired. This position ensures students continue receiving high-quality instruction from a certified educator.

This is a non-benefit eligible position. Adjunct Retired Teachers do not receive sick leave and do not qualify for any type of leave.

Scope of Responsibilities:

• Teach a maximum of two sections.
• Participate in two cluster meetings per month.
• Develop and submit lesson plans as required.
• Input student grades and attendance into JCampus.
• Serve as the teacher of record and maintain accurate academic documentation.
• Be evaluated by the principal using the current evaluation rubric.
• Work in partnership with a mentor teacher for instructional support.
• Comply with district policies, procedures, and state regulations.

Position Limitations:

• Not required to participate in duty assignments.
• Not permitted to provide tutoring before school, after school, on weekends, or during summer programs.
• May not serve as "Teacher as Sub.

Retirement Earnings Compliance:

• The Human Resources Department will consult with each retired teacher regarding earnings limits under TRSL to prevent suspension of retirement benefits.
• Adjunct Retired Teachers are responsible for monitoring and tracking their own earnings to ensure compliance.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree or higher from an accredited institution
• Valid Louisiana Teaching Certificate

Preferred Qualifications:

• Retired within the last seven (7) years
• Experience using JCampus
• Familiarity with Google Classroom, Promethean Boards, and Chromebooks

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to operate standard office and classroom equipment.
• Standing, walking, reaching, bending, and lifting up to 10 pounds as required.
