Job DescriptionFull time positions supporting elementary and middle school age students with moderate/severe disabilities including students Autism Spectrum Disorder and other complex needs in a public day school setting.
Under the supervision of a teacher, carries out the instructional activities called for in the students Individual Educational Plans and in the classroom lesson plansAssist students individually, in small groups or in a large group, utilizing a variety of strategies and techniques to present or reinforce learningImplement Behavior Support PlansSupport dysregulated behaviors, apply behavior de-escalation and safety skills, and apply programmatic safety training skills as needed (ie. CPI/Welle)Assist with supervision of daily routines and services such as feeding, toileting, diapering and assisting therapists, as well as other service providersMonitor student progress, collect and document appropriate academic and/or behavioral dataImplement use of verbal and visual supports for students, model appropriate tasks, skills and behaviors for studentsAccompany student throughout the day, as needed, for all classes, services, recess, student lunch time, and any other times requiredParticipation in district provided professional development opportunitiesAny other duties as assigned by the Building/Special Education AdministratorsSchool based experience preferredPossesses a strong belief that all students can learn and be successful in schoolDemonstrates a mindset that focuses on assets & growth, as opposed to deficitsAbility to demonstrate competence in behavior management skillsWillingness to try various approaches, depending on student needAbility to collaborate and communicate effectively with other special education staff and other colleagues in a professional mannerExcellent organizational and time management skillsUtilize data and reflection to plan for supports and interventionsAbility to seek resources and solutions to effectively solve problemsHigh school diploma and demonstrate through the Parapro assessment, knowledge of, and the ability to assist in the instruction of reading, writing and mathORAssociate’s Degree (or 60 credits)ORBachelor’s Degree (or 120 credits)Experience in working with children, preferably within an educational settingCitizenship, residency or work visa requiredBuilding principal and special education team administratorDirector of Special Education & Special Education CoordinatorThis position is paid hourly, full time, ranging from 29 to 33.75 hours per week.
