Role and Responsibilities:
The School Social Worker serves as a vital advocate for students by addressing social, emotional, behavioral, and environmental factors that may impact educational success. This role works closely with students, families, educators, and community agencies to identify barriers to learning, develop intervention strategies, and provide support services that promote student well-being and achievement.
- Provide individual and group counseling services to support students' social, emotional, and behavioral development.
- Conduct assessments to identify student needs and recommend appropriate interventions and support services.
- Develop and implement individualized plans to address academic, behavioral, attendance, and social-emotional concerns.
- Collaborate with teachers, administrators, school psychologists, and other support personnel to promote student success.
- Serve as a liaison between schools, families, and community organizations to connect students with necessary resources.
- Support crisis prevention, intervention, and response efforts within the school community.
- Assist in developing strategies that promote positive student behavior, attendance, and engagement.
- Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings and contribute to student support planning.
- Provide consultation and guidance to staff regarding student mental health and social-emotional needs.
- Maintain accurate documentation, case records, reports, and compliance-related information.
- Advocate for equitable access to educational opportunities and student support services.
- Promote a positive school climate that supports diversity, inclusion, and student well-being.
Required Skills and Experience:
- Strong understanding of child and adolescent development, mental health, and social-emotional learning.
- Excellent counseling, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to build trusting relationships with students, families, and school staff.
- Knowledge of crisis intervention, conflict resolution, and behavioral support practices.
- Strong organizational, problem-solving, and case management abilities.
- Ability to collaborate effectively within multidisciplinary educational teams.
- Experience maintaining confidential records and handling sensitive information professionally.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's degree in Social Work or a related field.
- School Social Worker credential, certification, or licensure preferred.
- Previous experience providing social work services in an educational setting.
- Experience working with students facing behavioral, emotional, or social challenges.
- Knowledge of community resources and support programs available to children and families.
