Role and Responsibilities:
- Participate in the development and promotion of special education philosophy, services, and delivery models.
- Collect and maintain accurate ongoing data related to student programming and progress.
- Collaborate effectively with staff members, paraeducators, and support teams.
- Provide direct instruction to students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) in academic, communication, and social skills.
- Provide direction and support to classroom paraeducators.
- Assess and monitor student progress to support educational development.
- Communicate regularly with parents and guardians regarding student performance and growth.
- Ensure compliance with all state and federal special education regulations and guidelines.
- Facilitate, write, and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and Behavior Intervention Plans.
- Develop IEP goals and objectives that provide measurable educational benefits.
- Utilize assistive technology tools and strategies to support students with ASD.
- Assist students with basic care needs, including feeding and toileting when required.
- Promote autism awareness and parent/community education initiatives.
- Support student-centered activities and philanthropic initiatives related to autism awareness.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by school administrators.
Required Skills and Experience:
- Current Michigan teaching certification with appropriate Autism Spectrum Disorder endorsement preferred, or enrollment in a planned certification program.
- Minimum of two years of successful experience in special education or ASD classroom support services.
- Strong understanding of instructional modifications and accommodations within the general education curriculum.
- Comprehensive knowledge of ASD instructional strategies and service delivery methods.
- Experience developing Present Levels of Academic Achievement and Functional Performance (PLAAFP), IEP goals, Functional Behavior Assessments, and Behavior Plans.
- Non-violent Crisis Intervention certification.
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to meet physical requirements including running, kneeling, sitting on the floor, lifting up to 40 pounds, and responding quickly in dynamic classroom situations.
- High energy level with the ability to adapt to a variety of student and classroom needs.
- Understanding of child development, learning theories, teaching methodologies, special education service delivery models, and state/federal special education regulations.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working directly with students diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder in educational settings.
- Demonstrated success implementing behavior intervention strategies and inclusive classroom practices.
- Experience utilizing assistive technology to support individualized student learning needs.
Compensation and Benefits:
Employment terms, evaluation procedures, and compensation are provided in accordance with the applicable Master Agreement.
