Role and Responsibilities:
In the K12 Teaching Substitute role, you will assume classroom responsibilities during teacher absences to ensure a stable and productive learning environment. You will follow established lesson plans, oversee classroom activities, and encourage positive student engagement while adhering to school policies and professional expectations.
- Carry out assigned lesson plans and instructional activities based on guidance from the regular classroom teacher.
- Promote classroom order by enforcing rules, managing student behavior, and addressing concerns appropriately.
- Accurately record attendance and document absences or notable classroom incidents.
- Supervise students during non-instructional periods, including lunch, recess, and transitions between classes.
- Complete post-assignment summaries detailing lessons delivered, student participation, and any follow-up items.
- Follow all school rules, procedures, and standards of professional conduct.
- Provide individual student support by offering clarification, encouragement, and academic assistance when needed.
Required Skills and Experience:
- High School Diploma or GED is required.
- Experience working with children in classroom, childcare, or tutoring environments is preferred but not required.
- Demonstrated ability to manage classroom behavior and maintain a focused learning setting.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Flexibility to adapt to different schools, grade levels, and instructional plans.
- Strong reliability, punctuality, and willingness to accept assignments on short notice.
- Organizational skills to maintain accurate records and complete required documentation.
Preferred Qualifications:
- College degree or coursework in an education-related field.
- Completion of at least 30 college credits or possession of a state-issued substitute teaching permit for non-certified roles.
- Current teaching license or certification for certified substitute teacher positions.
- Experience working with multiple grade levels or in diverse educational environments.
