Spanish Teacher

LFDCS is committed to the development and implementation of effective practices to support language acquisition and academic fluency in English and Spanish for all students. Dual-language fluency—building on the first language of Spanish while supporting proficiency in English—utilizes best practices to meet our priority funding goal.

Responsibilities:

-Teach students to read and write in Spanish.

-Provide the instructional program for students to reflect the goals of a Dual-Language Program.

-Ensure consistent discipline practices and integration with the classroom instruction.

-Participate in the monthly RTI (Response to Intervention) meeting for assigned grade levels.

-Meet weekly with grade-level classroom teachers to support parallel skills in two languages.

-Assist with standardized test administration or translation as requested by Head of School.

-Communicate with parents to ensure a cooperative family partnership in accord with the school's mission and to increase student achievement.

-Participate in and adopt school-based professional learning, innovations and technology advances.

-Invest in personal and professional development through on-going training in accord with an approved professional development plan.

-Provide letters of reference for high school admissions process (grade 8 students) as requested.

Experience/Qualifications:

-Fluent in Spanish and English

-Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Education or appropriate content subject area or Emergency License

-3 years' experience preferred

-Massachusetts Certification in Foreign Language Instruction at the levels matching position openings

-Strong commitment to education reform initiatives, particularly raising educational equity for low-income and linguistic minority students

-Experience teaching urban students of Hispanic backgrounds preferred

-Support the two-way language goals of the school.

-Ability to work independently and as a team member of the grade-level staff and school community

-Commitment to the specific mission and goals of LFDCS

-Demonstrated excellent communication skills (oral and written)

-Demonstrated interpersonal, planning, and organizational skills

Schedule: Full-Time, School-Year Position
