District Inclusion Coach Job Description (SY25-26)

Summary of Position Impact: The Inclusion Coach will ensure that all students receiving specialized program services are supported to access greater opportunities within their grade level general education environment through the application of evidence based coaching and consultation practices. This professional will work collaboratively with school leaders, classroom teams and specialized program related service providers to ensure the successful inclusion of students with disabilities into general education classes, experiences and the larger school community. The Inclusion Coach must rely on data based recommendations, learning more about the unique needs of the students served as well as consider any barriers present requiring remediation in the pursuit of a more inclusive educational experience for students with disabilities. The coach will build positive relationships with school based teams and leverage those relationships to support meaningful access to grade-level curriculum for a variety of learner profiles within the Lawrence Public School district.
QUALIFICATIONS - REQUIRED
● Values driven educator with demonstrated ability to ensure all students have equitable access to grade-level, meaningful learning opportunities alongside their general education peers
● Goal oriented, student centered approach to special education service delivery
● Bachelor's Degree required, Masters Degree preferred in related area (e.g. Special Education, Counseling, Applied Behavior Analysis, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Speech and Language Disorders)
● Valid DESE Teacher License or state/national licensure in one of the following areas: Speech language pathology, physical therapy, occupational therapy, assistive technology/assistive technology professional
● Experience teaching/providing services in a special education setting (e.g. Specialized classrooms, Resource Rooms, Specialized placements, etc.)
● Experience advocating for and supporting students to access greater levels of time in the general education classroom
● Knowledge of state and federal Special Education law, policy, and practices
● Ability and willingness to travel to schools across the district and the Central Office as student needs and duties dictate
● Familiarity with special education evaluations (academic, behaviorally based, physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech language, assistive technology assessment/ tools)
● Familiarity with school based/statewide progress monitoring tools and assessments (e.g. MAP Testing, MCAS, MCAS ALT, etc.)
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES/SKILL SET
● Ability to evaluate the effectiveness of interventions and strategies used to support a variety of learner profiles (e.g. developmental disabilities, autism spectrum disorder, etc.), and prescribe corresponding adjustments to practice/access to resources based on data in a collaborative, student centered manner as it relates to candidate’s scope of practice
● Demonstrated commitment to diversity to close the opportunity gap by ensuring all students have access to the highest quality instruction
● Demonstrated ability to apply a racial equity lens to decision making
● Experience designing, facilitating, and coordinating professional learning experiences
● Strong relationship skills, with a focus on rapport building and problem solving
● Strong communication skills (verbal, written, presentation, etc.)
● Working knowledge of general education curriculum content, MA Curriculum Frameworks and Common Core State Standards (formal coursework/training preferred)
● Self-starter with the ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with teams of educators, related service providers (SLP, BCBA, OT, PT, ETF) and classroom paraprofessionals
● Passion for inclusive education and a commitment to equity, and quality of life outcomes for all students using evidence based practices
● Strong note taking, documentation and case management/follow up skills
● Effective time management skills
● Ability to think critically, while demonstrating the flexibility needed to ensure steps towards increased, systemic inclusive practice
● Regular communication and case conceptualization with Director of Inclusive Education and/or district consultants
● Experiencing serving students and families within a large urban school district
● Willingness to understand a variety of general education curriculum tools and supports
● Ability to consistently and enthusiastically promote high student expectations across a variety of program locations
● Delivery of staff training related to Inclusive Education evidence based practices
● Real time coaching (including modeling and demonstrating) of staff during implementation of evidence based practices supportive of an Inclusive experience, as it relates to candidates professional area of practice expertise
● Other duties as assigned by the Director of Inclusion Education

● Full-time, Union 183-day position, eligible for 10-day ancillary stipend
