School Counselor

Position Overview:

Zeta Charter Schools is seeking a dedicated School Counselor who is passionate about supporting students’ academic, social, and emotional development. The School Counselor plays an important role in building strong student support systems, promoting social-emotional learning, and helping students overcome challenges that may impact their success. This role focuses on collaborating with educators, families, and support staff to ensure students receive the guidance, resources, and encouragement needed to thrive both inside and outside the classroom.

Role and Responsibilities:

• Serve as a key contributor to the school community by partnering with school leaders, teachers, and families to support student success and well-being.
• Monitor and support individualized student growth for those needing targeted assistance with emotional regulation, social skills, and behavioral development.
• Design and implement research-based social-emotional learning (SEL) programs and support teachers in effective implementation.
• Build strong and trusting relationships with students and families to support student development and positive school culture.
• Collaborate with specialized support teams to identify and support students with diverse learning needs.
• Participate in student support and intervention teams to develop and refine strategies that address academic, behavioral, and social-emotional challenges.
• Work closely with school staff to consult on complex student cases and share best practices for student support.
• Maintain proactive communication with families regarding student progress and available support resources.

Required Skills and Experience:

• New York State certification as a School Counselor.
• Master’s degree in School Counseling or a related field.
• Experience supporting students in crisis and providing effective social-emotional guidance.
• Strong ability to build relationships with students, families, and staff.
• Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to use data and student progress indicators to guide intervention strategies.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Previous experience working in a school counseling role supporting diverse student populations.
• Experience implementing social-emotional learning programs.
• Strong background in student support planning and intervention strategies.
• Ability to collaborate effectively within multidisciplinary teams.
• Commitment to fostering a positive and inclusive school environment.
