Position Summary:
Park Street School is seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable K–6 Reading Specialist full time to support students through direct intervention, collaboration with teachers and families, and leading a data-informed culture of literacy growth. The ideal candidate has a strong foundation in structured literacy, preferably with training in Orton-Gillingham or a similar approach. This position is key to supporting high-quality reading instruction and ensuring all students develop strong foundational literacy skills.
Key Responsibilities:
Student Support & Instruction:
Deliver targeted, small-group and/or individual reading instruction to K–6 students identified as needing additional support.
Implement structured literacy approaches that are explicit, systematic, and multisensory, such as Orton-Gillingham methodologies.
Conduct diagnostic and progress-monitoring assessments to guide and adjust instruction based on student needs.
Data Coordination & Analysis:
Coordinate and support administering benchmark literacy assessments (Dibels 8th, Words Their Way Spelling inventory, IXL, PAST, etc) across all K–6 grade levels.
Analyze student data to identify trends, support instructional decisions, and measure the effectiveness of interventions.
Collaborate with school leadership and instructional teams to use data for continuous improvement in literacy outcomes.
Collaboration & Leadership:
Plan and lead weekly grade level team meetings to discuss student progress, share strategies, and coordinate reading interventions.
Partner with classroom teachers to design and implement effective, differentiated literacy instruction.
Support the development and monitoring of individualized student learning plans (e.g., intervention plans, IEPs, or 504s as applicable).
Professional Development & Coaching:
Provide ongoing support and professional learning to classroom teachers around best practices in reading instruction and structured literacy.
Serve as a resource for evidence-based reading strategies, intervention tools, and current literacy research.
Family Engagement:
Communicate regularly with families regarding student progress, reading goals, and strategies for supporting literacy at home.
Facilitate family literacy events or informational sessions as needed to strengthen home-school partnerships.
