DESCRIPTION:

The Substitute School Nurse provides health services and emergency care to students and staff in the absence of the regular school nurse. This position plays a key role in supporting student wellness and ensuring that all health-related needs are addressed promptly and effectively throughout the school day. Please note that this is an on-call position.

The students balance the rigors of a complete academic course of studies with technical skill training in over 20 career majors. PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Administer first aid and emergency care to students and staff according to established procedures.

• Manage and dispense student medications as prescribed, following proper documentation and protocols.

• Monitor and manage students with chronic health conditions (e.g., asthma, diabetes, allergies), following individual healthcare plans.

• Maintain accurate and up-to-date health records and daily logs of student visits and treatments.

• Communicate effectively with parents/guardians, staff, and administrators regarding student health issues as needed.

• Adhere to school policies and public health guidelines, including communicable disease prevention and control.

• Collaborate with school staff to ensure a safe and healthy environment for all students.

• Maintain confidentiality and professionalism in all health-related matters.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Required:

  Current and valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in MA

• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).

Current CPR and First Aid certification.

Experience in pediatric or school nursing preferred.

• Preferred:

  Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).

  Previous experience in a school or community health setting.

• Ability to work independently in a fast-paced school environment.

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

• Sensitivity to the health and developmental needs of children and adolescents.
