2nd Grade Elementary Teacher

Position Overview:

The 2nd Grade Elementary Teacher is responsible for fostering the academic, social, emotional, and physical development of assigned students. The teacher delivers high-quality instruction, maintains a structured and supportive classroom environment, and collaborates with parents and school personnel to ensure student success.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university
• Valid Louisiana Teaching Certificate
• Certification in area of assignment
• Eligible for a Practitioner’s License (if applicable)

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Promote the mental, physical, emotional, and social growth of assigned students.
• Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging lessons aligned with curriculum standards.
• Use a variety of instructional strategies and materials to support student achievement.
• Demonstrate knowledge of appropriate developmental practices for young learners.
• Develop and implement effective classroom management techniques.
• Maintain accurate records including attendance, grades, health records, and report cards.
• Evaluate student progress and adjust instruction to meet individual needs.
• Provide differentiated instruction to address diverse learning abilities.
• Communicate regularly with parents regarding student progress and concerns.
• Collaborate with faculty, administration, and central office personnel.
• Participate in professional development, faculty meetings, and evaluation processes.
• Maintain classroom safety and report unsafe conditions as needed.
• Prepare substitute lesson plans and materials when absent.
• Comply with Louisiana state laws and parish regulations regarding education, health, and safety.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the principal.

Work Environment:

• School-based, climate-controlled classroom setting.
• May include outdoor supervision in varying weather conditions.
• Work schedule follows district bargaining unit agreement.

Communication Skills:

• Ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing.
• Ability to accurately give and receive information via telecommunication systems.
• Ability to build and maintain positive relationships with students, parents, and staff.

Physical Requirements:

• Standing, walking, bending, reaching, and lifting up to 10 pounds as needed.
• Ability to operate classroom equipment and instructional technology.
• Ability to physically transfer, restrain, or position students when required.
