School Social Worker

As a School Social Worker, you will join a school-based team providing interventions, counseling, and resources to students and families. Your role contributes directly to fostering positive student outcomes, enhancing social-emotional development, and supporting inclusive educational environments.

Role and Responsibilities:

You will provide comprehensive social work services to support the behavioral, emotional, and academic success of students. This role emphasizes counseling, intervention, and family engagement to create meaningful student outcomes.

• Provide 1-on-1 and group counseling to students, addressing social, emotional, and behavioral needs.
• Facilitate intervention programming to support student growth and learning.
• Serve as a member of School-Based Intervention Teams and School Improvement Teams.
• Educate parents on intervention strategies and effective support techniques.
• Connect families with community mental health resources and support services.
• Work with students and families to establish goals for behavioral and academic improvement.
• Implement interventions necessary to help students meet established goals.
• Maintain professional documentation of services and referrals provided to students and families.
• Provide staff development and consultative services on student learning, social/emotional, and behavioral health issues.
• Deliver evidence-based services to address students’ emotional, social, and behavioral needs.

Required Skills and Experience:

• Master’s degree in Social Work.
• MI School Social Worker Certification.
• Experience providing counseling and interventions to elementary school students.
• Ability to work effectively with both general education and special education students.
• Strong communication, collaboration, and documentation skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience serving on school-based intervention or improvement teams.
• Knowledge of community mental health resources and referral processes.
• Familiarity with evidence-based counseling and intervention strategies for school-aged children.
