Job Description

POSITION: Literacy Tutor Systemwide (Part Time)

REPORTS TO: Supervisors of Teaching and Learning

ACCOUNTABILITY OBJECTIVE:

This position is accountable for providing instructional support under the direction of the classroom teacher to elementary school students in the areas of Language Arts, Science, Math and Social Studies. The main focus of instructional support is centered on small group instruction. Individual is to use sound judgment consistent with Rules and Regulations of the Worcester Public Schools.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Responsible for instructing small groups of students in the areas of Language Arts (including Reading & Writing), Science, Math and Social Studies. Such instruction to be consistent with approved curriculum.

2. Responsible for reinforcing instructional lessons as presented by classroom teacher to enhance learning and understanding.

3. Responsible for utilizing a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media to meet the needs and capabilities of students.

4. Responsible for communicating with classroom teachers on a regular basis and providing reports required for assessing the progress and accomplishments of students.

5. Responsible for achieving established district curriculum outcomes.

6. Responsible for implementing effective techniques in the areas of classroom management/discipline and behavior reinforcement, consistent with the direction provided by the building principal and classroom teacher.

7. Responsible for contributing to a warm and open atmosphere so that all students will have the opportunity to grow and develop to their fullest potential.

8. Responsible for working with the classroom teacher to foster greater understanding within the school community by means of open communications with school staff, students, parents and other interested community members.

9. Responsible for providing assistance to any substitute teacher who is assigned in the absence of the regular classroom teacher.

10. Responsible for performing in an emergency situation duty work when required to do so by building principal. This duty work may involve such areas as lunch duty, recess duty, line duty, and bus duty.

11. Responsible for assuring equal educational opportunity to all individuals regardless of race, color, gender, age, marital status, religion, gender identity, natural origin, sexual orientation, homelessness, or disability.

12. Responsible for performance of other job-related duties as assigned by building principal.

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Bachelor’s Degree

2. Priority will be given to certified teachers.

3. In the event a certified teacher is not available who possesses the required skills, consideration will be given to non-certified individuals who have demonstrated experience i the areas needed.

WORK YEAR:

180 Pupil Session Days

WORK DAY:

Approximately 3 hours per day, no more than 15 hour per week. Specific schedule to be determined by supervisor.

RATE OF PAY: $35.42 per hour
