Certified Social Studies Teacher

Role and Responsibilities:

• Teach Social Studies courses while helping students build an understanding of history, geography, politics, economics, religion, and culture.
• Foster critical thinking, problem-solving, and inquiry-based learning through engaging classroom instruction.
• Utilize primary sources, digital applications, and educational technology to support student-centered learning.
• Manage daily instructional responsibilities, including teaching periods, homeroom duties, planning, and assigned supervisory responsibilities.
• Prepare, administer, and evaluate examinations, assignments, and classroom assessments.
• Provide guidance and academic support to students through conferences and mentoring.
• Participate in faculty committees, meetings, commencement activities, and other school functions.
• Collaborate with colleagues on curriculum development, instructional improvement, and departmental initiatives.
• Maintain effective communication with students, parents, faculty, and school leadership.
• Participate in mandatory professional development programs and remain current in assigned teaching disciplines.
• Implement school policies, procedures, and professional standards consistently.
• Perform additional professional duties as assigned by administration.

Required Skills and Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences or a related field.
• Valid Michigan teaching certification with RX or CX endorsement.
• Strong content knowledge in Social Studies disciplines and instructional methodologies.
• Excellent written, verbal, organizational, and interpersonal communication skills.
• Ability to engage students in a rigorous college preparatory curriculum.
• Proficiency in integrating digital tools and educational technology into classroom instruction.
• Strong classroom management and student engagement abilities.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with faculty, administration, students, and parents.
• Commitment to ongoing professional growth and continuous improvement.
• Ability to work effectively in a collaborative educational environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Master’s degree preferred.
• Experience using inquiry-based instruction and primary source analysis in Social Studies education.
• Experience teaching within a college preparatory academic setting.
• Demonstrated ability to build positive relationships with students and staff.
• Experience contributing to curriculum development and school improvement initiatives.
