TUTOR

Westfield Public Schools is seeking qualified applicants for the position of tutor:

RESPONSIBILITIES:

REPORTS TO:

Administrator of Special Education and Student Support Services

SALARY:

$19.65 per hour, non-contract, no benefit position

EVALUATION:Performance on this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions Westfield School Committee

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Provide private instruction to individual or small groups of students to improve academic performance or prepare for academic tests.
• Travel to students’ homes, libraries or schools to conduct tutoring sessions.
• Schedule tutoring appointments with students and/or their parents.
• Organize tutoring environment to promote productivity and learning.
• Monitor student performance or assist students in academic environments, such as classrooms, laboratories or computer centers.
• Review class material with students by discussing text, working solutions to problems, or reviewing worksheets or other assignments.
• Assess students’ progress throughout tutoring sessions.
• Provide feedback to students using positive reinforcement techniques to encourage, motivate, or build confidence in students.
• Communicate students’ progress to students, parents or teachers in written progress reports, in person, by phone or by email.
• Collaborate with students’ teachers, school administrators or counselors to determine student needs, develop tutoring plans or assess student progress.
• Any other duties as assigned by the Superintendent of Schools or his/her designee.

• QUALIFICATIONS:
  
  
• Bachelor’s degree and/or enrolled in a teaching certification program at a college or university
• Experience tutoring students
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to work successfully with staff and students
