Teachers and staff at the Pioneer Valley Performing Arts Charter Public School (PVPA) provide students with a supportive and challenging environment that is responsive to multiple learning styles, emphasizes learning through the arts, and integrates critical and creative thinking throughout the curriculum. Since 1996, PVPA has prepared students for higher education by employing a rigorous, standards-based curriculum in a nurturing and collaborative environment.
PVPA has an immediate opening for a professional practitioner who has a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) and is a Licensed School Nurse (LSN) in MA to oversee our Health Services program. The School Nurse, using professional nursing judgment and clinical knowledge, provides health care to students and staff, performs mandated health screenings, assists in developing individualized plans of care, meets the mandated standards of care as outlined in the DESE School Health manual and provides health related education/trainings to the PVPA staff.
Responsibilities:
1. Establish and manage a comprehensive school health program consistent with the Massachusetts Dept. of Public Health and the MA Dept. of Elementary and Secondary Education guidelines, regulations and statutes.
2. Collaborate with PVPA colleagues and community providers in assessing, planning, establishing and implementing 504 Plans and IEPs for students requiring them.
3. Provide direct clinical care to students including the dispensing of prescription and over the counter medications as needed and allowed by parental consent.
4. Apply for and oversee the MA DPH Medication Delegation program.
5. Manage medical records with accurate and precise record keeping.
6. Oversee the care of all students and staff who have life threatening allergies, asthma, diabetes, seizures or any other major medical concerns with IHP (Individualized Health Care and Safety Plans).
7. Oversee and follow PVPA’s Standing Medical Orders in collaboration with our consulting physician.
8. Oversee students mandated immunizations and physical exams.
9. Collaborate with teachers when they plan a field trip to insure students who have an individualized health care plan, take medication or have other health concerns have everything documented to accompany them on their trip.
10. Provide yearly trainings for PVPA staff in mandated school health topics.
11. Other duties as required.
