Summary

The Instructional Coach is responsible for working with teachers to improve instructional practices, support student learning, and foster a positive educational environment. The coach provides individualized coaching, professional development, and instructional resources to improve teacher strategies and student achievement. The coach serves as a mentor, advisor, and collaborator, focusing on the development and implementation of effective teaching strategies, assessment practices, and differentiated instruction to meet the diverse needs of students.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Build strong relationships with teachers, administrators, and other coaches.
• Support teachers and administrators in using data to improve instruction on all levels.
• Develop staff members’ knowledge, skills, attitudes, and behaviors through a variety of professional development targeted topics and designs.
• Identifying school teaching and learning needs, barriers and weaknesses by analyzing student data, and organizing and implementing problem-solving actions with teachers. Provide clear and direct feedback to teachers based on analysis of practice and track student and teacher progress to assess the effectiveness of coaching.
• Building and maintaining confidential relationships with teachers. The conversations and interactions that the coach has with teachers must always remain confidential so that a high level of trust is created and maintained between the teacher and the coach. Exceptions to this include imminent physical or psychological danger to the students.
• Develop coaching plans for teachers to ensure student improvement.
• Maintain a coaching log and any pertinent data requests/coaching documentation.
• Develop teachers’ capacity to collect and analyze multiple sources of data to improve student learning.
• Articulate a clear instructional vision alongsiside district leaders with a focus on teaching and learning that is data-driven, standards-aligned and rooted in a belief that all students can achieve at high levels.
• Support teachers’ achievement of goals, as needed, by effectively employing coaching strategies that gradually release responsibility for implementing instructional practices to the teacher (for example, co-planning, modeling, and observing).
• Assist district staff and principals in monitoring and documenting instruction and assessment status and progress of new teachers and/or teachers with identified needs.
• Use effective communication strategies to partner and work with adults. Assist novice teachers through the induction process providing support, guidance, and orientation to help them to become effective and engaging professionals.
• Assist in the onboarding of newly hired teachers.
• Offer instructional assistance by gathering data, modeling teaching strategies, observing instruction, providing feedback, and consulting with teachers to develop and meet student-focused goals.
• Design and use a variety of active teaching and learning strategies to improve student performance.
• Participate in targeted and on-going training and professional development related to coaching and curriculum
• Submit periodic updates to building principal(s) and Director of Elementary/Secondary Education to document progress toward meeting building/district goals.
• Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills and abilities to work as a member of a collaborative team.
• All other duties as assigned by Superintendent or designee.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Knowledge and Skills: Strong understanding of current research and best practices in education, including differentiated instruction, formative assessment, and educational technology. Proven ability to work collaboratively with diverse groups of educators. Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills. Ability to analyze and interpret student data to inform instructional decisions. A commitment to continuous professional growth and development.

Abilities: Ability to exercise good judgment in prioritizing tasks. Ability to plan, organize, and collaborate with others. Utilize computer software programs and hardware pertinent to area. Work both independently and as a team. Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Will involve traveling between multiple district buildings. Must be available for periodic meetings or trainings during the summer months, compensated in accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement. Valid Pennsylvania drivers license required.

Education and Experience: Bachelor’s degree in education or related field (Master's degree preferred). Teaching certification and a minimum of 5 years of experience as a classroom teacher. Experience in providing professional development and coaching or mentoring teachers is preferred.
