Position Overview:
The Elementary Teacher is responsible for promoting the academic, social, emotional, and physical growth of assigned students. The teacher delivers quality instruction, maintains an effective classroom environment, and collaborates with parents and school personnel to support student success.
Target School Stipend Opportunity:
To ensure students with the greatest needs have access to high-performing, certified teachers, the district offers a $2,000 stipend to teachers who select a designated target school for their first year at that school.
Target School Criteria:
Schools with over 90% economically disadvantaged students, and/or
Schools where English Language Learners exceed 30% of the student population
Target Content Areas (Subject to Change Based on Critical Shortage Areas):
Special Education (All Grade Levels)
Math (Grades 6–12)
Physics
Chemistry
English as a Second Language (ESL) – All Grade Levels
Stipend Eligibility Requirement:
Teacher must hold a Louisiana Level 1+ Teaching Certificate or valid out-of-state certification in the assigned content area.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree
Valid Teaching Certificate or
Eligible for a Practitioner’s License as confirmed by a local university
Valid Louisiana Teaching Certificate
Certification in area of assignment
Scope of Responsibilities:
Promote the mental, physical, emotional, and social growth of assigned students.
Performance Responsibilities / Essential Functions:
Use instructional materials and varied teaching techniques to support student achievement.
Demonstrate appropriate developmental practices.
Maintain accurate records including attendance, grades, health records, and reports.
Maintain a safe and attractive classroom environment.
Develop and implement effective classroom management strategies.
Complete reports and assignments in a timely manner.
Plan and submit weekly lesson plans.
Report regularly and punctually to assigned duties.
Notify administration of impending absences and provide substitute plans.
Evaluate student progress and adjust instruction as needed.
Provide for individual learning differences.
Cooperate with school-based and central office personnel.
Encourage parent involvement and communication.
Participate in professional development and faculty meetings.
Comply with Louisiana laws and parish regulations.
Participate in evaluation processes.
Perform other duties as assigned by the principal.
Work Environment / Hours Worked:
School-based, climate-controlled environment with some outdoor supervision.
Work schedule follows assigned school site and bargaining unit agreement.
Communication Skills:
Ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing.
Ability to accurately give and receive information via telecommunication systems.
Ability to communicate successfully with students, parents, and staff.

Physical Involvement:
