Position Overview:
The ESL Secondary Teacher is responsible for providing high-quality instruction to English Language Learners in grades 6–12. The teacher promotes the academic, social, emotional, and physical development of assigned students while ensuring compliance with state and district policies.
Target Content Stipend Eligibility:
Target content areas include: Special Education (All Grade Levels), Math (Grades 6–12), Physics, Chemistry, and English as a Second Language (ESL) (All Grade Levels). Subject to change based on critical shortage areas.
To receive the target content stipend, the teacher must hold a Louisiana Level 1+ Teaching Certificate or valid out-of-state certification in the assigned content area.
Scope of Responsibilities
Promote the mental, physical, emotional, and social growth of assigned students.
Performance Responsibilities / Essential Functions:
Use instructional materials and a variety of teaching techniques to support student achievement and development.
Demonstrate knowledge of appropriate developmental and instructional practices.
Maintain accurate and organized student records including attendance, grades, health records, and report cards.
Maintain a safe and orderly classroom environment.
Develop and implement effective classroom management strategies.
Complete reports, documentation, and assignments in a timely manner.
Plan and prepare lessons, submitting weekly lesson plans as required.
Report regularly and punctually to assigned duties.
Notify administration of absences and provide adequate substitute plans.
Maintain classroom books and equipment.
Utilize a variety of assessment tools for student placement and progress monitoring.
Provide differentiated instruction to address individual learning needs.
Evaluate student progress and adjust instruction accordingly.
Collaborate with administrators, faculty, and central office personnel.
Communicate regularly with parents regarding student progress and needs.
Participate in professional development, faculty meetings, and evaluation processes.
Comply with Louisiana laws and district regulations regarding education, health, and safety.
Perform additional duties as assigned by the principal.
Work Environment:
School-based, climate-controlled setting.
May include outdoor supervision subject to weather conditions.
Work schedule follows assigned school site and bargaining unit agreement.
Communication Skills:
Ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing.
Ability to accurately give and receive information via telecommunication systems.
Ability to maintain professional and positive relationships with students, parents, and staff.

Physical Requirements:
Standing, walking, reaching, bending, and lifting up to 10 pounds.

Minimum Qualifications:
College Degree
Valid Louisiana Teaching Certificate
Certification in ESL or area of assignment
