Job Description

ABOUT OUR SCHOOL

Four Rivers Charter Public School is seeking guest teachers (or substitutes) to help fill in when the need arises for staff to take time. Affiliated with EL Education, Four Rivers is college preparatory and has a clear mission of educating young people for lives of learning and service. This is an opportunity to join a talented and dedicated faculty to continue the success of an exemplary charter public school. Located in Greenfield, MA, Four Rivers enrolls 220 students in grades 7-12 and has been in operation for over 20 years. In our dynamic, collaborative school, teachers work closely with their colleagues, developing curriculum and helping shape the culture of the school in accordance with the school’s mission and Expeditionary Learning practices of challenging, project-based learning. We are old enough to know what we’re doing and young enough not to be too set in our ways. Four Rivers is an equal opportunity employer and strives to be an anti-racist school.

CORE EXPECTATIONS

Teachers are in their classrooms by 7:50.

Teachers carry out the plans left by the classroom teacher, and leave information about anything students were unable to accomplish, so that the returning teachers knows what students have done

Teachers hold students to the norms of our school, and model for students what behavior is expected. That is, we expect our students to be on time, to be prepared and to be kind and respectful to all members of our community, and our substitute teachers can model those norms for our students.

Teachers engage with students and with the tasks students are given to do in class and in crew, checking to make sure students understand the work and have help if they need it. It is a given that, while in the classroom with students, teachers are not using the internet for personal business, using cell phones or engaging in activities that are unrelated to teaching and supervising students

5. Potential duty assignments in addition to covering academic periods :

a. ASC COVERAGE: Teachers cover ASCs (study periods).

b. DISMISSAL DUTY: Students are picked up by bus, parents and carpool. When teachers are assigned to dismissal duty, it is their job to be outside at 3:05 when students are dismissed until 3:15.

c. RECESS OR BREAK DUTY

d. LUNCH DUTY: When teachers are on lunch duty, it is their job to check in the lunch line and then supervise student behavior and possibly crew clean up. Other staff will be on lunch duty at the same time and will take charge. Substitute teachers need only provide support.

6. Follow administrative procedures.

a. Sign out and back in to school in the main office or on the Google Doc when leaving during normal hours.

b. Take attendance in classes by following requested procedures, and let the office know if any student fails to show up.

c. Request assistance as needed.

7. Follow expectations of staff conduct and communication norms.
