TITLE OF VACANCY:Teacher of the Visually Impaired / Orientation & Mobility Instructor

LOCATION: Travel to various schools

CONTRACT PERIOD:180 Days

REPORTS TO:Special Education Supervisor

REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS:

• Valid Illinois Professional Educator’s License with Blind, Visually Impaired endorsement
• Certification through the Academy for Certification of Vision Rehabilitation & Education Professionals (ACVREP)

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Provide educational services to students who are visually impaired ages 3 to 21
• Complete functional vision assessments and written reports
• Conduct evaluations of the orientation and mobility needs of visually impaired students, and written reports
• Facilitate students in acquiring the ability to move about and travel safely and efficiently both within and beyond familiar confines of the school community
• Participate in IEP meetings and assist the team in determining education needs related to vision
• Recommend specialized materials, equipment, and technology to meet the students’ educational needs
• Provide training on materials, equipment, and technology to students and staff, as needed
• Communicate and plan with teachers about the modification of instructions to meet the students’ educational needs
• Adapt materials for students who are visually impaired
• Communicate with Special Education Case Managers and Department Chairs
• Other duties as assigned
