Certified Substitute Teacher

Role and Responsibilities:

As a Certified Substitute Teacher, you will assume instructional duties during teacher absences to ensure continuity in learning and classroom routines. You will deliver prepared lesson plans, manage classroom activities, and encourage positive student engagement while following established school policies and professional standards.

• Deliver assigned lessons and classroom activities according to the guidance provided by the regular teacher.
• Maintain an organized classroom environment by enforcing rules, supporting positive behavior, and addressing issues as they arise.
• Accurately record student attendance and document absences or notable incidents.
• Supervise students during non-instructional periods, including lunch, recess, and transitions.
• Complete end-of-assignment reports summarizing instruction provided, student involvement, and any follow-up needs.
• Comply with all school policies, procedures, and expectations for professional conduct.
• Provide individualized student support by offering clarification, motivation, and academic assistance when appropriate.

Required Skills and Experience:

• High School Diploma or GED is required.
• Prior experience working with children in educational, childcare, or tutoring settings is preferred but not required.
• Ability to effectively manage classroom behavior and maintain a productive learning environment.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Flexibility to adapt to different schools, grade levels, and lesson plans.
• Reliability, punctuality, and willingness to accept assignments on short notice.
• Strong organizational skills to maintain accurate records and complete documentation.

Preferred Qualifications:

• College degree or completed coursework in an education-related discipline.
• At least 30 college credits or a state-issued substitute teaching permit for non-certified positions.
• Valid teaching license or certification for certified substitute teaching roles.
• Experience working with multiple grade levels or in varied educational environments.
