Substitute Custodian

Springfield Public Schools seeks outstanding candidates for the position of Substitute Custodian. This position works on-call, as needed and contributes to the appearance of the building by cleaning restrooms, classrooms, halls, office areas, and grounds.

• Knowledge of effective cleaning practices, procedures and equipment;
• Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions, policies and procedures in English;
• Ability to communicate effectively with other employees and students using tact, courtesy and good judgment;
• Self-motivated;
• Willing to work as part of a team;
• Ability to work varied shifts;
• Ability to operate standard cleaning equipment such as vacuums and hand cleaning tools;
• Ability and commitment to practice cultural competency and demonstrate respect for diversity;
• Ability to physically perform assigned duties, including but not limited to:
• Lifting objects up to 75 lbs.
• Stand and walk for extended periods of time
• Climbs stairs and ladders
