Winter Gameday Cheer Coach – Job Description
Position Summary
The Winter Gameday Cheer Coach is responsible for leading and supervising the cheer team during the winter sports season, with a primary focus on supporting basketball gameday performances. This role includes teaching crowd-leading material, promoting school spirit, ensuring athlete safety, and fostering a positive team environment that reflects the values of the school or organization.
Key Responsibilities
Team Leadership & Coaching
Plan, organize, and conduct all winter cheer practices and gameday performances.
Teach and refine crowd-leading cheers, chants, sidelines, timeouts, band dances, and school traditions.
Maintain consistent communication with athletes regarding schedules, expectations, and team goals.
Develop and uphold team standards for behavior, commitment, and sportsmanship.
Gameday Operations
Coordinate with athletic staff and game management to prepare for home basketball games.
Lead the team in promoting a spirited, energetic atmosphere that engages the crowd.
Ensure athletes understand game flow (timeouts, quarters, halftime, promotions, etc.).
Manage music, signs, props, and all gameday materials as needed.
Safety & Compliance
Ensure all athletes follow safety standards and skill progressions appropriate for their level.
Uphold school, league, and state cheer safety regulations.
Maintain updated athlete emergency information and report any injuries promptly.
Supervise athletes at all times on school property and during school events.
Program Administration
Track attendance and enforce participation requirements.
Assist with uniform distribution and appearance standards.
Maintain open and professional communication with parents/guardians when needed.
Participate in required trainings, meetings, and certifications.
Qualifications
Previous cheerleading or coaching experience preferred (sideline/gameday experience strongly valued).
Knowledge of cheer safety standards and sideline cheer techniques.
Strong communication, organization, and leadership skills.
Ability to build a positive, inclusive team culture.
CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
