Science Teacher

Position Overview:

The Science Teacher at Rocketship Public Schools provides K-5 students with engaging science instruction that deepens their understanding of the world and exposes them to learning experiences beyond the traditional classroom. This role is critical in strengthening school culture and fostering student curiosity. The Science Teacher reports to an Assistant Principal and collaborates closely with staff and families to support student growth and success.

Role and Responsibilities:

• Build a classroom culture of excellence and deliver rigorous science instruction using units of study and daily lesson plans.
• Engage in cycles of data-driven instruction to inform unit and daily planning and personalize learning for student needs.
• Collaborate with Humanities and/or STEM teachers to align with thematic units of study.
• Partner with special education staff to ensure students needing extra support are meaningfully included.
• Develop authentic relationships with students and families through consistent communication and home visits.
• Lead the design and execution of two science-themed community meetings per year.
• Engage families on academic and behavioral goals and transparently share student progress to ensure shared ownership of outcomes.
• Commit to professional growth and continuous improvement.
• Attend all professional development meetings and training opportunities, which may exceed regular school hours.
• Take urgent and courageous actions in the best interest of students, even in unfamiliar situations.
• Meet professional obligations and proactively communicate regarding schedule changes or updates.
• Exhibit honest and humble self-reflection and implement constructive feedback effectively.
• Communicate effectively with colleagues and contribute to a positive, collaborative staff culture.

Required Skills and Experience:

• Bachelor's degree and relevant science experience.
• Valid teaching credential for the state of instruction, in progress, or ability to transfer an out-of-state credential.
• Strong classroom management and instructional skills.
• Ability to collaborate with colleagues, students, and families to support learning.

Preferred Qualifications:

• At least one year of full-time teaching experience (excluding student teaching or substitute work).
• Academic or professional experience in science.
• Bilingual skills are desired but not required.

Physical Demands:

Employees are regularly required to talk, hear, and communicate with adults and children, use hands and fingers, stand, walk, sit, and reach with hands and arms. Occasionally, employees must lift up to 50 pounds or climb ladders. Vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, and focus adjustment. Noise levels are moderate to high. Compensation and Benefits:

Compensation is commensurate with qualifications and experience and includes health and wellness benefits, 403(b) retirement plan, flexible spending account (FSA), and generous paid time off.
