5th/6th Grade Humanities Teacher

Worcester Cultural Academy, an EL Education charter school, is seeking a culturally responsive, student-centered 5th & 6th Grade Humanities Teacher to join our crew. Responsibilities

Design and deliver engaging, student-centered lessons that promote critical thinking, ownership, discovery, and joy.

Set high expectations for all students and differentiate instruction using culturally responsive practices.

Teach targeted intervention lessons to support students’ academic growth.

Communicate regularly and proactively with families to support student success.

Actively support WCA’s mission as an anti-racist, inclusive school, and demonstrate a "whatever it takes" attitude for student achievement.

Collaborate with colleagues, use data to inform instruction, and participate in school-wide planning and professional development.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree (required); Master’s degree preferred.

Massachusetts Elementary Education Certification (Grades 1–6) or subject matter MTEL passed.

SEI (Sheltered English Immersion) Endorsement (required).

Commitment to team-based, mission-driven school culture.

Strong problem-solving skills, persistence, and initiative in the face of challenges.

Ability to make decisions that prioritize student needs and the school community.

Ability to pass DESE-mandated CORI and fingerprint background checks.

Compensation:

Competitive salary, commensurate with experience; $52,000-$80,000.

Worcester Cultural Academy (WCA) is a free charter public school located in Worcester, MA opening in August 2023 with grades Kindergarten through 4th grade, and will grow to a K-8 school. The school is partnering with EL Education (formerly known as Expeditionary Learning) to grant students an opportunity to connect what they are learning in classrooms to real-world applications through high-quality learning experiences. Through project-based learning, case studies, and fieldwork conducted with the leading cultural institutions and museums of central Massachusetts, WCA fosters intellectual curiosity and encourages students to become articulate communicators, critical thinkers, and skilled problem solvers who care for themselves, others around them, and their community. A culture of quality permeates the school and our students will graduate with an understanding of how they learn best and how to advocate for the resources they need for success.
