School Nurse

The Spencer-East Brookfield Regional School District is seeking School Nurse Substitutes to support student service delivery needs district-wide.

The general duties of the substitute school nurse include but are not limited to:

Health assessment, medical treatment, and health counseling of students; medication administration; development, implementation, and ongoing evaluation of individualized medication administration care plans and individualized health care plans; collaboration with other health care providers and school personnel regarding the health of students; providing emergency care to any individual in the case of injury or sudden illness; performing and/or overseeing all Massachusetts Department of Public Health mandated health screenings or activities; maintaining comprehensive school health records including electronic; prevention and control of communicable diseases within the schools; staffing immunization clinics and other public health-related duties or other duties assigned by the Superintendent of Schools or designee.

• Professional Requirements:
  
  •Valid license to practice as a Registered Nurse, or Licensed Nurse, in Massachusetts.
  
  • Knowledge of community agencies to help students and their families
  
  • Knowledge of district policies and procedures.
  
  • CPR
  
  •At least 2 year(s) of relevant work experience preferred.
  
  •Certification as an LPN or Associate's or Masters degree as a registered nurse.
  
  •Critical thinking skills, as well as the ability to work independently, is a must.
  
  •Good communication skills in order to collaborate with staff regarding student needs.
  
  •Familiarity with medications seen within school settings including, but not limited to: Epinephrine, Albuterol, and Diazepam.
  
  •Familiarity with common child illnesses, as well as chronic conditions, including but not limited to: Asthma, Seizure Disorders, Allergies, and Diabetes.
  
  •Ability to recognize and refer students with mental health concerns.
  
  Physical Requirements:
  
  * Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer
  
  * Prolonged periods of standing, reaching, and bending
  
  * Ability to attend to emergencies quickly without notice
  
  Attendance and punctuality are essential functions of this job as they are directly related to the academic outcomes of their students. Not only do these functions affect the academic achievement of students, but they also affect the overall running of the building.
